Michelle avidly volunteered with her family and co-workers at the Richard Lugar Safe Haven for homeless veterans for about 1 1/2 years. But it wasn't enough for her, so she decided to start a nonprofit.

Operation Backpack - Giving Backpacks to Kids in Need
Operation Backpack in Indianapolis collects donated backpacks and school supplies to give to under-privileged children. The backpacks are distributed to the children of the families in our programs such as Brandon Hall, Theodora House, STRIVE Indy, and Healing Families.

Safe Haven: A Housing First Model for Homeless Veterans
The VA National Center on Homelessness introduced the Safe Haven housing-first model in 2010 to help Veterans who were unsuccessful in traditional housing programs. This model doesn’t place treatment requirements on residents; instead residents work with case managers on root causes of their homelessness. With this harm reduction model residents become stable enough over time to gain employment and transition to their own home.
